By co-founding of IABSE Foundation a footbridge connection between two local villages was realized. Besides the financial donation a team of volunteers from Bridges to Prosperity (B2P) together with Ramboll (UK), Schimetta Consult (Austria), BridgeWiz (Turkey) and Bolina Ingegneria (Italy) was the leading core during construction of the bridge. The main goal of this international team was to provide engineering knowledge and skills throughout the construction process. Therefore the team was working side by side with the local people, who will be responsible for the maintenance of the bridge once it was ready. After finishing construction the inauguration day was a huge festival with nearly 900 locals coming from all over the region. IABSE Foundation is proud having supported this great project in line of the main targets of the institution.

Nepal is located in one of the most seismically active areas in the world. Based on government and GeoHazards International (GHI) data, a vast number of school buildings are highly vulnerable to heavy damage or collapse. No child should have to risk their lives to get an education. Therefore GHI together with IABSE foundation supported a training of local engineers in terms of seismic vulnerability of existing school buildings. GHI and IABSE Foundation in partnership with the National Society for Earthquake Technology-Nepal (NSET) provided a multi-day training for local engineers on seismic vulnerability assessments of buildings. After the training, the engineers then assessed all schools within Amargadhi Municipality to better understand the extent of school vulnerability in the region. GHI’s engineer based in Amargadhi led the local assessment activities, which included visual inspection of the school buildings, site visits, and field interviews with relevant people who know the schools well. Municipal engineers also participated in part of the local assessment activities.
